About Erfocentrum

It is our mission to inform people on heredity in relation to health and hereditary conditions.

Ideally, Dutch citizens are responsible for their own health. To achieve this they need to be able to access, appraise, understand and apply health-related information to make informed decisions. Health care professionals can help them through shared decision making.

The Erfocentrum provides textual and visual information (e.g. decision aids, brochures, and animations) on genetics on various websites.

Our main website is www.erfelijkheid.nl. The leading source of information in Dutch on genetics and health for a broad audience offering both general and disease-specific content. People also can ask individual questions about heredity via erfolijnaterfocentrum.nl (erfolijn[at]erfocentrum[dot]nl). And more general questions via infoaterfocentrum.nl (info[at]erfocentrum[dot]nl)

The Erfocentrum is a not-for-profit organisation, mainly financed by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) and the Dutch departments of genetics. Occasionally we participate in publicly funded projects.

Dutch citizens can rely on our independent information, which is updated regularly. The information is particularly interesting for people with hereditary diseases and their families. The information can also be useful for healthcare professionals. They can use this when informing patients and families who have to make decisions on heredity.
