The Erfocentrum provides reliable and understandable information on these themes to the general public and medical professionals through various websites, a helpdesk and brochures.

The information of the Erfocentrum can support people in making informed choices regarding their own health and/or the health of their children. This information can also help people in forming their own personal opinions on social and ethical aspects of genetics and biomedical issues.

Genetics and genetic or congenital conditions
The Erfocentrum provides information about heredity, inheritance and the different patterns of inheritance on www.erfelijkheid.nl. This website also contains information on hundreds of genetic or congenital disorders.

Medical biotechnology
The Erfocentrum gives information about the application of biotechnology for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders on www.biomedisch.nl. The Erfocentrum pays special attention to issues relating to ethics and public.

Pregnancy
The information about pregnancy includes information on lifestyle (www.zwangerstraks.nl and www.zwangernu.nl), the use of folic acid (www.slikeerstfoliumzuur.nl), awareness of risks www.zwangerwijzer.nl), prenatal screening and diagnostics (www.prenatalescreening.nl) before and during a pregnancy.

The Erfocentrum gives information to the general public as well as medical professionals. This is done through a variety of mediums including websites, a helpdesk (Erfolijn) and electronic newsletters (Erfomailnieuws and Actualiteiten rond erfelijkheid en genetica).

Finance

The Erfocentrum is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Health, the Dutch Centres for Clinical Genetics and equity funds.
